ENGINEERING/XR Projects
-
IoT: Control and monitor the automated machines/processes and connect them to the Cloud database. Projects: 1) Automate common cooking products, 2) Simplify voting processes, etc.

-
XR (Extended Reality in VR, AR & MR): Develop virtual reality and augmented reality platforms to provide optimized hands-on training and workspace for students and workers in STEM fields.

IoT: Smart Cooking Machine
Engineer & Developer
Designed and assembled a smart cooking machine that can cook Chinese and vegan food with minimal human input.
Programmed a TFT touch screen and an iPhone application to interface with the machine and implemented the following features: stirrer speed control, pot temperature measurement, water/oil dispensing control, etc.

IoT: Smart Smoothie Dispenser
Engineer & Developer
Designed and implemented a smoothie dispenser that allow users to order a smoothie on their phone, detect when the customer is nearby to prepare for automatic pickup.

Interfaced the dispenser with a microcontroller, webcam/sensors, an IP gateway, cloud computing methods, WPANs and wireless communication protocols.

IoT: Electronic Voting System
Engineering & Developer
Designed an electronic voting system that allow individual voters to do the following things: 1) vote for a poll leader during electron, 2) communicate with other voters on their choices, and 3) re-start an election.

This project focuses on data communication through IR and Wi-Fi, database update and data visualization on the front end.

VR: LegoLand
Team Lead & Software Developer
Assembled a team (2 software engineers, 2 designers) and designed a Virtual Reality co-working space designed for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Users from various STEM, Design and Art background can meet up, brainstorm ideas and work on projects together using various shapes, sizes of Lego pieces provided inside the platform.

AR: AlgoAR
Team Lead & Developer
Assembled a team (3 software engineers, 1 mechanical engineer and 1 designer) and designed an Augmented Reality application that allow users to learn CS algorithms through the interaction with 3D virtual models.
3D models are imprinted onto Vuyforia cards and implemented recognition algorithms based on shape, pattern, etc.

AR: Saving Portal Reef
Team Lead & Developer
Collaborated in a team of 4 (1 3D designers, 1 art student and 2 software engineers) and designed an Augmented Reality application in Hololens 2 and EEG Head-band that helps evoke audience's empathetic emotions towards damaged coral reef and motivate them to take actions for environmental protection.

Our team designed the platform using visual, auditory, and hand tracking to create an interactive environment for users to experience how human touches trigger coral reef destruction.
